Standard Kruger Game Drives

Baboon troopNational Park Safaris

These drives are conducted in both open 4x4 and closed air conditioned safari vehicles. The majority of our international clients choose the open 4x4 vehicle as it does offer an elevated view and a more panoramic experience. However, it should be pointed out that the closed vehicle is a good alternative for rainy, cold or extremely hot days. Most South Africans would choose this option.

Options include:

A full day tour of the Kruger National Park southern region

The full day’s safari departs at 05.00 in summer and 06.00 in winter. Guests will be provided with a generous morning brunch which will be prepared by your ranger at one of the rest spots in the park. This will take the place of breakfast and lunch and allow more time for viewing. Guests will return to the camp in time for dinner.

A half day tour of the Kruger National Park

This tour has two departures either in the morning (05.00 summer and 06.00 winter) with a packed breakfast and guests returning in time for lunch, or an afternoon departure at 1.00 after an early 12.00 lunch. This tour includes sundowner drinks and guests return in time for dinner.

Winter months: 1st April to 30th October
Your ranger will give you an early morning wake up call on request

The drive leaves camp and follows the public road to either one of the main entrance gates to the Kruger National Park. These are the Malelane or Crocodile Bridge gates depending on the season. These are the two main entrance gates on the southern side of the Kruger National Park. The Malelane entrance is 30 minutes drive from camp and the Crocodile Bridge entrance is 45 minutes drive.

The half day tour focuses on the very southern part of Kruger, whilst the full day covers a large area up to Skukuza. Please see the map Standard Kruger National Park and Standard Kruger National Park – Southern Section Only. In the event you are already on site either of the two safari managers; Mark or Con will be pleased to answer any questions you may have on these two areas. Alternatively if you are in the planning stages of your safari you are welcome to email any specific questions you may have in advance:

The southern section of the Kruger National Park is renowned for its rich game and diversity of fauna and flora and offers excellent chances of seeing elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard and several other general game.

Advantages for Standard Kruger National Park half or full day tours:

  • This is a tour of the entire southern area of the Kruger National Park and covers a far larger area of land than that of the Greater Kruger National Park concession area or Kwa Madwala drives.
  • Kruger National Park offers an environment as close to natural as possible – second to few on earth.
  • It offers some of the best game viewing in terms of variety of species Africa has to offer.
  • Kruger National Park remains an icon in international circles and is a must see if you are from abroad and have travelled many miles to visit South Africa.
  • It will give you special memories of a large part of South Africa’s conserved land.

Points to take into consideration for Standard Kruger National Park half or full day tours:

  • Kruger National Park today is fairly commercialised. It is not uncommon to wait at the entrance gates in long queues for up to 30 minutes. Scheduled tour groups are advised to pre book their Kruger gate entrance fees in advance.
  • Most of the tour will be conducted on tarred roads where you are likely to see various other vehicles, safari operators, tour buses and cars on the animal sightings you may encounter.
  • Rest camps are simple and offer simplistic lunch menus and drinks. In addition these camps are often fairly busy and again commercialised in terms of souvenir shops and tourists.

Standard Kruger National Park Rate:
