Located in the province of Mpumalanga (“land of the rising sun”), Kwa Madwala is close to the world famous Kruger National Park. Getting to the nearest Kruger entrance from Kwa Madwala is quick and straightforward. The Malelane Gate is a shade over 15 minutes drive away and entry via the Crocodile Bridge Gate further to the east, 30 minutes.Access to neighbouring Swaziland is easy too, with the Jeppes Reef border only a 40 minute drive away. Also popular are trips to Maputo, capital of Mozambique. The N4 road continues through the Komatipoort border and Maputo can be reached in approximately two hours from Kwa Madwala (depending on border formalities).
A stay at Manyatta Rock Camp therefore offers the chance to see and explore a wide variety of sites in the region. Full day and half day trips are offered from Manyatta and we recommend a minimum stay of 4 nights to appreciate the diversity of this area.
How to Find Us
Directions to Kwa Madwala – from Nelspruit / Johannesburg
Kwa Madwala is 85 km east of the provincial capital, Nelspruit and can easily be reached by sedan car in just over one hour. The Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is on the outskirts of town and transfers should take one hour. Head east on the N4 toll road. 23.5 km’s east of Malelane take the Strydomblok Road (second road sign posting for Jeppes Reef) just before the village of Hectorspruit.The gate entrance will be on your left hand side of the road approximately 5 kilometers from the junction with the N4.
Directions to Kwa Madwala – from Swaziland, Mananga Border and Durban
Getting to Kwa Madwala via Swaziland and originating from Durban is possible. Leave Durban on the N2 heading north via Stanger, Mkuze towards Pongola. 10km before Pongola is a right hand turning marked for the Golela Border Post. After border formalities continue north towards Big Bend (40km). 5km after Big Bend turn right for Siteki/Simunye and follow until arriving at a T junction. Turn left and continue for another 4km until reaching the next T junction. Here turn right and continue for 38km, turning left at the Mananga Border sign post. Exit Swaziland at Mananga. Travel for approximately 40km until you see a large sugar factory on the right hand side. Turn left at the factory and go through a Tollgate, cross over the bridge and follow this road until reaching the next Tollgate.Turn left just after the Tollgate – this road will lead to Kwa Madwala which is located on the right hand side.
