Kingfisher Bush Camp

Bathroom at KingfisherKingfisher Bush Camp, one of Kwa Madwala’s best kept secrets, is an exclusive private 3 star bush camp offering a tranquil environment, combining basics in the bush with a magnificent setting overlooking a waterhole where animals frequently come to drink.

With the exception of your ranger assigned to you for your safety, and the housekeeper, you will be left alone in peace. The sounds of the bush and the serenity of nature around you will be your Kingfisher experience.

Your ranger will assist you with any activities you may wish to take part in together with your transport requirements to and from the central dining area of the Manyatta Rock Camp.

The camp is ideal for families and small groups travelling together and a unique feature of this camp is that you can arrange to have a boma bonfire outside your unit after dinner.

Guests are requested to leave their self drive vehicles at the guest parking area and check in at the reception area of the Manyatta Rock Camp after which they will be escorted to the Kingfisher Bush Camp.

Kingfisher Bush camp is fully equipped for self catering.

Kingfisher Accommodation

Kingfisher LodgeTwo individual units are available at Kingfisher.

Both consist of  A-framed chalets decorated in a simplistic natural style. Each A-framed chalet is fully equipped with power fans, twin beds and an extra two beds in the event of an additional 3rd and 4th adult or children sharing. The unit sleeps a total of eight people. A central bathroom, fully equipped with bath, toilet, double basins and shower, is available. An outside lounge area is available in which guests can sit, read a book or just relax.

The second unit differs slightly in that it has an outside boma area; a traditional round fenced outdoor area where guests can sit around a central open fire.

Be sure to bring your binoculars as you never know what you might see.

Children

Children are welcome at Kingfisher Bush Camp and can either have their own unit adjacent to their parents or share with them.

A babysitter can be arranged for small children at a small additional cost provided this is booked in advance.

Almost all activities are available for children with the following guidelines:

Elephant back safaris: children must be supervised by their parents at all times and strictly adhere to the briefings given by the elephant stable master and staff, all ages welcome
Microlight safaris: children over the age of 6 only
Horse back safaris: children over the age of 6 only

Activities are charged per person per seat and therefore children are charged at full price for all activities.

Meals

Kingfisher dining and kitchen areaKingfisher Bush Camp is self catering, and the outside kitchens are well equipped with all the basic equipment you will need. Every two chalets share an outside kitchen and a braai (barbeque) area and firewood is provided. There are several local shops in Malelane that sell high quality fresh meat and groceries and a very good butcher in Hectorspruit which sells very delicious meat but as he is so well known his stock is limited.

However, guests staying at the Kingfisher Bush Camp also have the option to have their meals at the Manyatta Rock Camp central dining area. Your ranger will ensure you get to and from the restaurant at suitable times.

Meals are good simple and wholesome South African cuisine and offer a choice of red and white meats and a vegetarian option at dinner. Breakfasts are generous and lunches light.

Weather permitting, every alternate dinner is a boma dinner and is served around the fire in the boma area of the camp in traditional safari style. Every alternate breakfast is a bush breakfast and is served in an ideal location in the bush in the middle of the conservancy.

Kingfisher waterholeBeing on safari is often a hungry business even in hot weather. Dishes are varied and have an international flair. Dinner is served after returning from the late afternoon game drive and other activities in either the central dining area or the boma.

Your ranger will ensure you have sufficient drinks available at the camp and can easily arrange to escort you up to one of the bars in the Manyatta Rock Camp.
