It is a long day as the journey is four hours each way spending another four hours on the beach. Even though the location is only 180 km from the camp, borders, local traffic and poor roads slow the journey slightly.
It is possible to stop at Maputo on the return journey for a coffee or sundowner, in this event your arrival back at camp will mean a later dinner.

Matsamo Cultural Village
The Matsamo Cultural Village is situated on the Jeppes Reef border of Swaziland and is a 45 minute drive from Kwa Madwala.
The day tour departs from Manyatta Rock Camp at around 10.30am returning at approximately 15.00 in time for tea and the afternoon safari. It includes a performing tribal dance show, a visit to a typical restored Swazi village and a taste of the local cuisine. There is a shop which sells souvenirs and the tour includes lunch.
The people who live in the various rural villages around Matsamo are mainly Swazi in their customs, traditions and language with a strong Sotho influence and they have a well preserved and rich cultural heritage. They are part of the Shongwe clan, once a strong independent group, who in the time of King Mswati II swore allegiance to the Swazi king and helped defend the territory against intruders from the north. As part of his reward for his allegiance and loyalty, Chief Matsamo remained in control of the region and absorbed the Sotho clans who lived in the area. “Ka Hhohho”, a folk song, is still often sung today by the community during festivals. It tells the story of the Sotho clansmen protesting against the Swazi absorption.
The cultural village first opened in 2001 and judging by the number of invitations they have received to perform at different venues, it is clear Matsamo enjoys the support of a broader audience for whom they have become a symbol of African pride.
The passion with which this rural community practice their indigenous knowledge is undoubtedly a major contributor to the economic success of the village ensuring sustainability through tourism providing income for more than 100 people.
